Massage Malta Butterfly TherapiesMassage, what is it?

Ancient in origin and rooted in almost every culture, massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to improve the way muscles work, aid healing and promote relaxation and well-being. Massage is very popular today.

Massage therapy can ease muscle tension, improve skin quality and circulation, help break down cellulite and work on your nervous system as well as giving you some quality time out from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Varying the techniques used, the oils chosen and by adapting the pressure to suit you, a Butterfly Therapies massage is perfectly tailored to your needs.  You can choose to focus on a particular area, e.g neck, back and shoulders or go for a full body massage.  I hold an ITEC  Diploma in Holistic Massage, incorporating Swedish Massage techniques, relaxation techniques and a holistic (treat the whole person) approach.

Reflexology Malta Butterfly TherapiesReflexology, what is it?

Reflexology is based on the principle that every part of the body is ‘reflected’ on the feet, hands, face and even the ears.  In a treatment a reflexologist will use a range of massage techniques on your feet or hands to treat the whole body and all of it’s systems while you lay/sit back and relax.

Reflexology is proven to be relaxing and to aide circulation.  Reflexology works with the bodies natural ability to heal itself.  Because reflexology works (via the hand and feet) on the body as a whole it may be effective in a wide range of conditions and in particular any conditions that are caused or exacerbated by stress. Recent research suggests reflexology is also a natural pain killer and the therapy is additionally popular with women trying to get pregnant.

Read more on the Association of Reflexologists (AOR) website here.

I have over 10 years experience of practicing reflexology and in that time have also undertaken a range of specialist reflexology training.  If you want to find out if reflexology may be beneficial to you, get in touch.

Reiki Malta Butterfly TherapiesReiki, what is it?

Reiki is a technique that began in Japan, and is used for relaxation, stress relief, and to promote spiritual, mental and physical wellness.  It is an ancient, hands on healing art that is holistic (i.e. treats the whole person) and focuses on rebalancing the energy in the bodies main energy centres (chakras).

During a treatment you lay down (fully clothed but without shoes, socks and jewellery) and the therapist places their hands over your energy centres and holds them there until the energy re-tunes itself.   Like all holistic therapies, different people will feel different sensations but it is not unusual to feel warmth or vibrations through your body and a feeling of peace, security and wellbeing. There are no adverse side effects from Reiki, it is a gentle technique that can release blocked feelings, relieve discomfort and allow you to feel more balanced.

I am a third level Reiki practitioner and have over 10 years experience of working with people with a range of conditions such as muscular pain, problems with reproductive organs and stress and grief.

indian head massage malta Butterfly TherapiesIndian Head Massage, what is it?

Part of the Ayurvedic system of health, it has been practiced in India for over 5000 years with Indian women traditionally practicing it for health.   The treatment involves the therapist massaging the back, shoulders, head, neck and scalp and incorporates some work with the chakras (see reiki above).

A relaxing treatment, Indian Head Massage promotes blood circulation to the head, neck and shoulders which in turn can improve the condition of the hair and skin and help improve concentration.

It can help relax the muscles of the neck and shoulders and ease eyestrain and headaches is therefore ideal for modern lifestyles involving lots of work at the computer.

You can receive the treatment clothed or, if you prefer, like a traditional massage using oils/lotion.  The massage is usually performed with you seated on a massage chair or leaning into a massage couch for support.  Either way it’s a wonderful way to relax.

Amanae in Malta, learning to let go and trustAmanae, what is it?

Relatively new compared to more ancient therapies Amanae has been around for about 30 years. It is an intense treatment but people report that it is deeply effective in dealing with emotional issues and trauma.

Amanae is a form of bodywork that involves the therapist applying deep pressure and movements to very specific points on the body (unclothed) and the recipient breathing deeply through the session. The treatment also involves energy work (a bit like reiki) and can feel quite emotionally and physically tiring.

Recipients have reported feeling lighter, more present, tired but in a good way, relaxed and more awake after a session.  Everyone who receives the work expresses how deep the sensations (physical and emotional) can be and how direct it is as a therapy. I have shared my personal experience of amanae in a blog post here and written some more detail about the amazing therapy here.

It is not a cure all but if you are interested in trying it, get in touch. This is the only treatment that can not be combined as part of a pick n mix treatment.
